Advocacy
Kultti represents the interests of nearly 150 member magazines in political decision-making. We act as an expert in legislative processes, promote our members’ funding opportunities, and maintain connections with national and international actors in the magazine field. Kultti provides advice and keeps members informed about, among other things, cultural magazine grants and support.
We closely follow developments in the field, participate in public debate, and highlight the importance of cultural, opinion, and science magazines.
Marketing cooperation and events
Kultti’s members can participate at a reduced cost in joint marketing efforts such as advertisements, fairs, and festivals. Kultti also takes part in a wide variety of events, both locally and nationally whenever possible. You can find Kultti every year at least at the Helsinki Book Fair.
The website Kulttilehdet.fi and the single-issue sales network
Kultti maintains the website Kulttilehdet.fi, where visitors can easily explore and subscribe to Kultti’s member magazines. Under the Kulttilehdet brand, there is also a network for single-issue sales. As a member, your magazine can take part in single-issue sales at the Rosebud Sivullinen bookstore.
Cultural Magazine Galleries in Helsinki and Oulu
Kultti has three Cultural Magazine Galleries: at the Cable Factory in Helsinki (founded in 2006), at the Valve Cultural Centre in Oulu (2015), and at the Media Museum and Archive Merkki (2024). At the Cable Factory, all Kultti’s member magazines published in print are on display. Magazines can apply to participate in the galleries in Oulu and Merkki. At the Cable Factory and Valve galleries, magazines can also organize their own events. Exhibitions are free of charge for members.
The Quality Magazine of the Year competition
Member magazines can participate in Kultti’s annual Quality Magazine of the Year competition, which increases visibility and provides professional feedback. The competition is open to all member magazines.
Training and networking
Kultti offers training related to the magazine field, based on members’ needs and wishes. Editors and writers can network and share experiences at Kultti’s member evenings, which feature interesting guest speakers.
The Council for Mass Media
Kultti is a member of the support association for the Council for Mass Media (CMM). Kultti is committed to the CMM’s agreement and defends the application of the Guidelines for Journalists in editorial work. Participation in self-regulation means that Kultti’s member magazines also follow good journalistic practices, and the CMM can handle any complaints concerning them. Membership strengthens the journalistic position and credibility of small magazines as well.
Usually, member magazines join the CMM through Kultti. In exceptional cases, membership is possible without committing to the Guidelines for Journalists — for example, for scientific publications. Decisions are always made on a case-by-case basis.
Communication channels
Kultti sends a member newsletter by email with important information about Kultti’s activities and the magazine field. When needed, we can also share cooperation opportunities in the newsletter. In the Facebook group for Kultti’s member magazines, you can exchange ideas with other editorial teams. We also communicate on Kultti’s public Facebook page and on Instagram.
A Kultti that reflects its members
Kultti offers opportunities for participation and influence to everyone interested in cultural, opinion, and science magazines. Staff members of member magazines can run for Kultti’s board and take part in developing activities through, for example, member evenings and surveys.
